Servants were one of the largest groups in Victorian society, the number of people employed in the single house could have reached up to 50 employees. The amount of employees was not the only factor that prove the wealth of the family. Second thing was the footman’s height. The taller the better:) If he had more than six feet tall (1.8 m), then he could demand twice the salary than the man who measured only five feet tall (1.7 m).
